Transgender Rights

There has never been a more critical time for the rights of transgender people, whether it’s for name changes, standing up against employment discrimination, and protecting your assets for life planning. Giampolo Law Group is in the best position to provide compassionate assistance for the complexities of ensuring your rights as a transgender person. As a nationally recognized LGBTQ+ advocate, GLG is proud to stand beside you in all the legal steps of your transition and beyond.

Name Changes

For transgender individuals, a new name can mean a new life. Pennsylvania and New Jersey are states with cumbersome name change processes. Transgender individuals seeking legal name changes for reasons other than (heterosexual) marriage, divorce, or adoption must file a petition with the Court for the county in which they reside. Transgender individuals must also submit to a criminal background checks and provide proof they are free from civil judgments. Additionally, transgender individuals must publish notice of the petition in two local newspapers of general circulation. These requirements create significant barriers for people to navigate, and at Giampolo Law Group, our gay friendly Pennsylvania lawyers will carry this burden, so you can focus on moving forward and living your most authentic life.

Employment Discrimination

Employees

What you’re capable of on the job is not contingent upon your gender or gender identity, but work isn’t only about your responsibilities. It can be a social place and as a result, it can be filled with opportunities for harassment, unfair policies, discrimination, and even compromises to your safety. For employees facing unfair treatment, either by colleagues or supervisors, GLG is your advocate for righting these wrongs. If you believe you’ve been passed over for a promotion, aren’t protected against harassment, your safety has been compromised, or you’ve not been hired at all because of your gender identity, GLG is ready to stand beside you and help you fight transgender discrimination.

Employers

Societal expectations are changing faster than ever before. Providing a safe environment for your transgender employees is more important now than ever, whether that’s through implementing policies regarding bathroom use, promotion opportunities, outlining steps on shutting down harassment, and providing sensitivity training to your workforce. GLG can help you.

We assist with:

  • Drafting policies to protect your LGBTQ+ employees, including the different facets of transgender rights, which helps build an inclusive company culture designed to mitigate discrimination before it becomes a liability
  • Sensitivity training for your entire staff
  • Drafting hiring and advancement policies that eliminate your risk of being accused of discrimination
